Browsing protection uses browser extensions to keep you safe while online by providing safety ratings for websites and blocking access to websites that have been rated harmful.
The Antivirus page of the product shows whether the extension is enabled or disabled.
Tip: For Firefox, Chrome, and Microsoft Edge, you can click Set Up Now on the Antivirus page to turn on the extension in your browser.
If the product shows you a warning that the browser extension is not installed or is turned off:
Open your browser to check if the browser extension is turned on.

- If you use Firefox:
- Select Add-ons from the menu, then click Extensions
- If you see the Browsing Protection extension there, click Enable next to it
- If you use Chrome:
- Select More tools > Extensions from the menu
- Click the toggle switch for the Browsing Protection extension to turn it on
- If you use Microsoft Edge:
- Select Extensions from the menu
- Click the toggle switch for the Browsing Protection extension to turn it on
- If you use Firefox:
Note: On Microsoft Edge, you have to allow extensions from other web stores to use the Browsing Protection extension.
If you use Internet Explorer:

- Select Tools > Manage Add-ons
- Select the browser extension and click Enable
If the extension is not listed in your browser, you need to reinstall it manually.

- Open the product from the Windows Start menu
- On the Antivirus page, select Settings
- Select Secure Browsing
- Firefox: click Install Firefox extension under Browser extensions
- Chrome or Microsoft Edge: click Open Chrome Web Store under Browser Extensions to go the Browsing Protection extension's page, then click Add to Chrome
- Click Reinstall extensions under Browser Extensions
- Open the following test page in your browser to check that the extensions are turned on: https://unsafe.fstestdomain.com
If the product block page opens, browser extensions are in use.
Safe browser will be enabled as the default for child users within Family Rules. For all other users, Safe Browser will need to be manually enabled.
How do I enable Safe Browsing?
Option 1:
- From the MetroNet Defense Internet Security homepage, click on Safe Browsing
- Next, select the green Set as Default button at the bottom of the page
- You have now set Safe Browser as your default browser
Option 2:
- Click on a link within your email (any link will do)
- Next, you will be prompted to select which browser to use to open the link
- Select the Safe Browser icon and Always to set as your default browser
Option 3:
Android
- Open your device settings
- Select Apps
- Click ellipsis in the top right corner for more
- Select Default Apps
- Select Browser Apps
- Select MetroNet Defense Internet Security from the list
- You have now set Safe Browser as your default browser
iOS (Apple)
- Open your device settings
- Scroll down until you find MetroNet Defense Internet Security in the list
- Click on MetroNet Defense Internet Security
- Next, select Default Browser App
- Choose MetroNet Defense Internet Security
- You have now set Safe Browser as your default browser
